Welcome figures are monumental sculptures often carved in western red cedar that are particular to the Native peoples of Western Washington and Southern British Columbia in the Pacific Northwest region. The figures are often carved in pairs and are intended to greet visitors coming into ones territory or village. Unlike 'totem poles' these figures are not associated with crests belonging to individuals or families. A brief video of a figure carved by Qwalsius can be referenced here.
